Tradition
Irish music is a traditional artform, flokloric, transmitted from
generation to generation; a living and dynamic musical culture that
continues to develop
As as it is an oral tradition, great importance is attached to
listening and actve participation in learning this musical style.
History and context
Much more than a set of musical "data" : notation & sheet music,
titles & lyrics, the music in the Irish tradition is a entity that
includes on the one hand, the "data", the songs and melodies, and on the other hand the context: the history of the music in a particular region, the biography of the
player, the instrument, the regional style ...
All these elements play a part in our perception and appreciation of the music, and of the individual player.
Our approach
Listening and participation
It is not, then, a formal study, writing. We propose an active learning process, with a priority given to listening and participation,
according to each student's individual level.
We provide the necessary learning aids: recordings and video, and sheet music as a written record.
Experience
Background information is also a priority: the experience of regional and
instrumental styles, themes and variations, players. And the greatest
experience: sharing and participating, the beginners with the pros, young
with old, learners with teachers. We all have things to contribute, and things to learn ...
