Fiddle Co. Donegal
Tommy
Peoples was born in 1948 near St Johnston, Co. Donegal. He learned the
fiddle in the distinctive Donegal style, and today with his
deeply personal style and technical skill is one of the most reknowned fiddle players in the Irish tradition
In the sixties he moved from Donegal to Dublin, where he played with Sean Keane, Matt Molloy, Liam O Floinn and Mary Bergin, among others. In the 70s he founded the group "1691" with Matt Molloy and Peter Browne, and recorded an album with the group in Brittany in 1972. He played with The Bothy Band between 1975-1976; also in 1976, he recorded an album with Matt Molly and Paul Brady, and then in 1982 a solo album with Daithi Sproule (guitar), "The Iron Man"
His daughter, Siobhan, is also an accomplished fiddler.
